Yes, it’s me in your inbox again and, yes, it’s me shamelessly promoting the new book, which is coming out in just a couple weeks! April 25 is the official pub date for On Minimalism: Documenting a Musical Movement.
But, I’ll let you in on a little secret: apparently folks pre-ordering the book from UC Press are already receiving their copies, so why not get a sneak peek? In fact, I’ll make the deal even sweeter, because we’re all friends here. Order from UC Press here and it's only $25 if you use the code SAVE30! Or if you’re the Amazon type, here.
A lot of people are saying nice things about the book so far, like Robin Rimbaud aka Scanner:
There are a couple things I’d like to let you all know about, as we approach the release date. First is that, next Tuesday, we’re dropping a bonus episode of Sound Expertise on On Minimalism: producer D. Edward Davis interviews my co-author Kerry O’Brien and me about the book, and the process behind it. (Season 3 of Sound Expertise is coming in mid-May!!!)
Second, for folks on the East Coast, we've got two exciting launch events. On April 23 at 4:30pm, Kerry and I are speaking with Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo (who has an amazing essay in the book about Rhys Chatham) at Town Hall in NYC. Yay!! It also serves as a preconcert event for the North American debut of the amazing Dream House Quartet — that concert is a fundraiser for The Kitchen, so you should buy a ticket to support everyone! But if you can only make the 4:30pm panel that’s ok — you won’t need a ticket for the show, it’s free to the public.
If you’re in the DC area, on April 26 at 7pm, Kerry and I will be speaking with the great WaPo pop critic Chris Richards at Politics & Prose in Union Market, with a set by local act Insect Factory. (I saw him at Rhizome recently and it was awesome!!)
I really hope to see some of you at one of these events — we’re signing books at both, so bring your copy or buy one on-site!!
Finally, Kerry and I are going to be posting like crazy on Insta (@seatedovation, @kerry_ob) and Twitter (@seatedovation, @kerry_ob) in the coming weeks, with cool photos from the book and screenshots of its contents — please check it out and share widely!!
Thanks again for being loyal readers of Industry, and see you soon!
Congrats! And if there's any chance for a review copy, please let me know.
